‘CHILDREN OF GLORY’ SMASHES BOX OFFICE RECORDS TO BECOME ONE OF HUNGARY’S HIGHEST GROSSING FILMS EVER; Fortissimo capitalises with brisk business at AFM - 20th November

Despite the unconventional decision to open on a Monday, to tie in with the 50th anniversary of the revolution on 23rd October, CHILDREN OF GLORY film crushed its nearest competitors with opening day admissions reaching 30,000; the biggest opening day for any Hungarian film to date. Regardless of the stiff competition from numerous organized events in Budapest on that day, audiences flocked to the cinemas, eager to be the first to see this highly anticipated film, giving standing ovations in many cinemas as the credits rolled.

With a cumulative box office total of US$1,500,000 CHILDREN OF GLORY continues its march in Hungary, forcing PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN’S CHEST down into second place in the 2006 Hungarian cumulative box office rankings to date.

Commenting on the enormous critical and commercial success of the release, producer Vajna commented: “I’m happy with the results and hope that the film will continue to touch the hearts of the Hungarian youth.”

To add to this domestic success, Fortissimo Films, international sales, closed a number of territories during AFM.  These include Japan (Cinequanon Films), Portugal (Filmes Lusomundo), Brazil (Imagen Films), New Zealand (Roadshow), Greece (Prooptiki), Romania (Intercom), Singapore (Festive Films), Australia (Village Roadshow Films), Hong Kong (First Films).

As Michael J Werner, co-chairman of Fortissimo commented “Negotiations continue with strong interest from the USA, U.K., France, Germany and Italy.”

CHILDREN OF GLORY - a powerful and compelling story based on historical events -  commemorates Hungary’s heroic Revolution of 1956, and takes place in Budapest and at the Melbourne Olympic Games in October and November of that year. While Soviet tanks were destroying Hungary, the Hungarian water polo team were winning over the Soviets in the Olympic pool in Melbourne, in what has been described as the bloodiest water polo match in history.

CHILDREN OF GLORY focuses on a love story between a revolutionary student - portrayed by Kata Dobó (ROLLERBALL, BASIC INSTINCT 2, CSI) - and the star of the water polo national team, played by Iván Fenyő (JARHEAD). Rounding out the cast is award winning actor Sándor Csányi (CONTROL) and acclaimed Hungarian thespians Viktória Szávai (YOU OR ME), Zsolt Huszár (NINCS MESE), Péter Haumann (FATELESS).
