BUDAPEST, TUESDAY MARCH 7TH 2006:   Principal photography on new feature film CHILDREN OF GLORY (SZABADSÁG, SZERELEM) commenced on 5th March, 2006  for 9 weeks in Budapest, it was announced today. Produced by Andy Vajna, the Hungarian born co-founder of Carolco and C2, founder of Cinergi  (RAMBO series, EVITA, TERMINATOR 3, MUSIC BOX,  and BASIC INSTINCT 2), CHILDREN OF GLORY is directed by rising Hungarian star Krisztina Goda, whose recent project, JUST SEX AND NOTHING ELSE, went on to become the last year’s most successful Hungarian comedy.

CHILDREN OF GLORY will commemorate Hungary’s heroic Revolution of 1956, and takes place in Budapest and at the Melbourne Olympic Games in October and November of that year. While Soviet tanks were destroying Hungary, the Hungarian water polo team was winning over the Soviets in the Olympic pool in Melbourne, in what has been described as the bloodiest water polo match in history.

CHILDREN OF GLORY focuses on a love story between a revolutionary student - portrayed by upcoming actress Kata Dobó (ROLLERBALL, BASIC INSTINCT 2) - and the star of the water polo national team, played by established Hungarian actor Iván Fenyő (JARHEAD). Rounding out the cast is award winning actor Sándor Csányi (CONTROL) and acclaimed Hungarian thespians Viktória Szávai (YOU OR ME), Zsolt Huszár (NINCS MESE), Péter Haumann (FATELESS), Ági Szirtes (HUNGARIAN BEAUTY), Zoltán Schmied (NINCS MESE) and Roland Rába (KIVÉGZÉS).

To give authenticity to the performances in the pool, the ‘on-screen’ water polo team members were trained for their role by two-time Olympic gold medalist Tibor Benedek. In addition to the actors (Krisztián Kolovratnik, Kornél Simon and Róbert Marton), a number of the on-screen team will be actual players from Hungary’s gold winning water polo team in Athens, namely Zoltán Szécsi, Bulcsú Székely and Gergő Kiss.

Commenting on the project, Producer Andy Vajna said:

“This is an epic movie portraying the heroic efforts of the Hungarian people to try to break the chains of their Communist occupiers and thereby influence the history of Europe."

CHILDREN OF GLORY (SZABADSÁG, SZERELEM) is a Hungarian/UK co-production, directed by Krisztina Goda and based on a script by Joe Eszterhás and co-writers Géza Bereményi, Réka Divinyi and Éva Gárdos.
